Saying the landmark on its blog , the website claimed a fairly recent progress in smartphones had made it easier for boost the figures browsing the site each month .
YouTube's acceptance offers Google with a profitable channel by which to market advertising , together with its core search business enterprise .
YouTube was started in 2005 and acquired by Google in 2006 .
It paid out $1 .76bn ( £1 .16bn ) for the site , which at that time had nearly 30-40 million users all around the world .
With one billion monthly users , it poses challenging to Facebook as the internet's chief social network . Facebook reached a billion users in October last year .
"Nearly one out of every two people on the Internet visits YouTube ," the company said in its statement .
It had been keen to stress the business potential of such a sizable audience .
